Phew

Fri Apr 24, 2009, 6:58 PM
Well, that's the first round of conventions over... I didn't end up making it to minifest cause I had a bunch of assignments to do, and I fucked up my Kiri Komori costume anyway... (she'll be fixed up someday, I hope). I did, however, make it to sunday of Supanova and Melb Mini Animania.

Supanova - after much freaking out my Queen Beryl cosplay was ready to go. Let me just say - I have never been so happy to get out of a costume in my life =___= Walking was hard. Sitting down was nigh on impossible. It was hot ;_; I had to be lifted onto the stage (thank you, :iconfadewolf:) because I couldn't manage stairs. About all I can say in terms of pros for supanova was that they had a nice, well spaced traders room, a good emcee for the comp and it just so happened to be the place where I caught up with lots of people. That aside, there was little to interest me in terms of guest speakers, no screenings to speak of, and what should have been the highlight of my day (the cosplay comp) I spent backstage, unable to watch any of it as I was last to go on, and unable to talk because it was not a separate room to the competition.

(On a side note - I must say, I don't have high hopes for manifest after going to the showgrounds for the first time - no food outlets within reasonable traveling distance, tram ride took about half an hour (only one arrived every 10 or so minutes and was consequently absolutely packed), only a verrrrrrrry small amount of toilets (this WILL BE A PROBLEM), limited screening rooms and no nice locations for photos... *sighs* I know Melb Uni was considered 'small' by many but I think that MOC has sacrificed a lot of good features for increased attendance numbers.)

Oh yeah. And I got to reenact the V-day kiss scene with the most pro Silhouette cosplayer I have ever seen. I guess Supanova was okay then. >///> yeah.

Animania - infinitely better by comparison. Many more people I knew attended, and although it was cramped it was fun - there were actually things to do and the staff were, as always, lovely. It's also the con where I get to meet up with so many more of you interstate beauties, so that's a giant tick in the pros column.

Why do so many cons coincide with due dates for my assignments D: I felt I had to rush Barasuishou a bit, as I also had a giant psych report due on the monday, but all the same, I'm really happy with how she came out. I haven't felt that proud and happy about a costume since Kobato at Manifest last year. I just love Barasuishou's outfit and character, and I was thrilled to be able to put her together. Eyepatch aside, it was much more comfortable than Queen Beryl, at least!

The quality of cosplay at Animania has risen soooo much since last year @_@ I was shocked I won anything at all, with the talent that was there *blushes furiously* I'm going to have to up my game for manifest! *determined face* In any case, I'll try to get some photos up of Queen Beryl and Barasuishou too!

Now, with a lack of any costume-making to procrastinate with, I'm pimping out my cosplay.com profile instead of doing homework. Please check it out! I have a lot more photos of my costumes than I do on my DA account - and some of them by very good photographers (Thanks guys~) [link]

"We've set out for the mine, led by the Miner's Guild representative. The man claims to have led several successful expeditions, so taking his advice we've set out with a skeleton crew; just one miner, one lumberjack, a pair of farmers, and some craftsmen. He suggested plenty of meat and -- my favorite -- booze, as well as some seeds and a few dogs and cats. He swears the dogs will pay for themselves a dozen times over in warding off larger wildlife, while the cats will make indoor life more comfortable and pest-free. I thought he muttered something about their taste as well, but I'm sure I misheard..."
