67% of me is not my own... but neither will she belong to you.
Feels good to draw something like this which I\'d consider kind of complicated... Siamese Twin Mermaids. : D I\'m pretty proud of how I drew the figures... took a bit of sketching to work out how to connect them, but I\'m really quite happy with how they turned out!
It\'s a pretty busy picture... I don\'t think I did the nets well (got lazy at the end) nor is it very clear, perhaps, that they have just been caught in the net and lifted into a boat (there\'s a bit of a curve round the edge, but I didn\'t spend too long planning that out... got sloppy...) But sometimes it\'s fun to go crazy with detail ^^
I had this idea in my head about a week ago... then I got sick and couldn\'t lift a pen so it had to wait... I\'m glad I could finally get it onto paper ^^
My god, you always come up with the loveliest artistic concepts, and I LOVE them all, from the girl with the prosthetic leg to Siamese mermaids. (I always have a fascination with mermaids, I like to believe they're not the ethereal, beautiful things you see in Disney but more serpentine and grotesque)...and you really captured my sentiments with this one. That and I like your drawing style.
Mermaids have always been more bestial, wild creatures than just 'humans with fish tails'. Whenever I'm drawing half animals, half humans I always look into the ways I can show a deeper effect of this than just giving them non-human lower torso.
I've always had a fascination with drawing things that are less than perfect, or just plain carnival freak show style... I really like exploring a fine line between the beautiful and the grotesque or the damaged, which is why so often I'll come back to themes like this... thanks so much for your comment!
Thank you! *pinches cheeks* It took me a while to work out how I was going to make them obviously conjoined and not simply looking like they were lying on top of one another... but I'm glad it worked out!

Across the globe, 27 million men, women, and children live in some form of slavery. That is more people at this moment than in all the centuries of the Atlantic Slave Trade. Something must be done. This contest serves two purposes: Raising awareness about human trafficking and raising funds for the Not For Sale organization.
Open to all mediums. Deadline is March 10, 2010 @ 11:59pm PST.
