Ok~ photo dump time for Lorenza~! I wore this costume to Animania Melbourne ‘08

Very, very rushed job… I had most of the pieces cut out and ready to go for the weeks before hand, but it was the weekend before animania where I though “Oh shi- I’d better put this together somehow” *ignores all assignments to sew like mad for 3 days straight* Done! *fails uni* :’ (

Had some problems when the zip I sewed in broke, and the boning on the bodice was pretty sloppily done ;_; I’ll use “my first time” as an excuse, but I want to get better at such things in the future.

The skirt, I am really quite proud of how much I was able to make it stick out considering I didn’t make a hoop skirt, I just used 2 tulle petticoats of different lengths, and they were still able to support such a heavy, gathered skirt ^^ the hem came out a –little- uneven because I didn’t use a pattern for a skirt (didn’t buy the right era dress pattern so made up my own… ended up waaaay too big, but it still worked!) Similarly, I bought an old shirt from the op shop, and modified it for the blouse Lorenza wears beneath her corset. So, I had an opportunity to be quite creative with my problem solving for this costume, and that’s one of the aspects of costume creation that I quite enjoy.

As soon as I started watch Le Chevalier D’eon, I knew I HAD to cosplay from it. I was torn for a while between D’Eon himself and Lia’s red dress…. But I came to prefer the character of Lorenza that much more <333 I may end up creating the dress that Madame de Pompadour wears ^^ with a tiny skull to carry around… *drifts off into fantasy* but yes! Lorenza… is so seemingly cold and emotionless, but in battle displays a wit and fierceness of spirit that you never seem to see in her as she travels… She calls D’eon a tranny in one episode XD Also, I got to show off my French XD Bek tells me she overhead someone say “oh wow, her pronunciation is so good, I can barely say the show’s title” from where she was standing while I answered questions. I think Le Chevalier D’Eon is a rather underrated show, which is why I was really pleased whenever someone recognized me, as I was not dressed as a character who would be in any trailers or promo materials… the politics tend to throw some people off, but imho, it was a good show that deserves more fandom. Don’t read the manga >_> ;;; watch the anime first please…

I wore a wig, by the way. Which leads me to talk about how awful a costume choice this was for animania, as it was so damn tiny and crowded in there… and 11 or so meters of entirely artificial fabrics suffocated my poor legs ;_; the wig was hot and tight, the corset was hot and tight… the fan wasn’t actually a canon prop, t’was to stop me from fainting ;_; But, to be fair…. Tight, restrictive, sweltering hot and uncomfortable = very, very historically accurate (Y)

I won runner up best female cosplay with this! *beams* 2nd award ever, I can’t help but be proud ^o^

I’m not sure if I’ll wear this to the Amaranth Anime Ball, simply because it’s so hot… and I want to dance~~~~
