My Sunday cosplay from manifest ’07! As part of a ‘Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya’ cosplay group, I was their Magical Mikuru-chan!

We decided on the Episode 01 (Aka the movie – The Adventures of Magical Mikuru-chan) costumes because they were a bit more distinctive – also for me, Mikuru’s combat waitress outfit is a BIT less revealing than her nurse and bunny outfits. Though our Yuki’s witch hat got paint on it so she just went in her normal uniform.

It was A LOT of fun cosplay as these guys - was our VERY in character Haruhi, and was our (also very in character) Yuki! And Tom was our Itsuki / Kyon (meant to be Itsuki, but since our Kyon NEVER TURNED UP I SWEAR JOHN I WILL HURT YOU FOR THAT – he took on the role of Kyon later in the day)

I really loved how in character Bek got, she would be grabbing my arm and running off in random directions while I struggled to keep up going “Kyaa~ Suzumiya-san!” ‘twas great fun. Also, when we were surrounded by photographers at one point, she stole our Yuki’s glasses and forced them onto me, before shoving me to the ground, grabbing my wrists and making me do sexy poses - ([link]) XD XD
Jnet was also rather in character… when we ran off like that she just sat down underneath a tree and started playing DS – would have been good if she had a book to read huh?

(actually – we tried to find an unlocked tute room at melb uni so we could take photos like it was our club room XD but that failed sadly)

and I made the girl’s uniforms in a very frentic 2 days as joint effort (also helped by who finished off the ribbons and insert logo for the shirts). We made them on her auntie’s sewing machine. Let me just mention her auntie is a CURTAIN MAKER, and thus her sewing machine goes at insane super speeds. Apart from that …thing… being possessed by demons, we did ok I think! Kyon and Itsuki’s uniforms were opshopped, and the logo painted on. My waitress outfit took a bit longer, especially all the fiddly bits and pieces having to be hand sewed, and remaking it because the colour of fabric I used was oh so very wrong. But I’m really really happy with the way all of the costumes turned out in the end.

This was a very fun group to be a part of all day – I was hugely flattered by the number of people we had coming up for photos and the compliments we received – and it was really good to get into character like we did and just let loose! so glad we choose to cosplay from this series because it really was a lot of fun!
